Open Directory Project: A large Internet directory, maintained by volunteers with special knowledge of the areas they maintain.

WWW Virtual Library: Excellent subject guides to Web sites, maintained by subject specialists.

Yahoo: The largest directory of the Internet; however, quality and usefulness are not taken into account when sites are listed.
 

SEARCH ENGINES

Excite: Has good advanced search capabilities, and the option to "search for more documents like this one" for a chosen site.

HotBot: Easy-to-use advanced search options on front page, with some options not available on other search engines.

Google: Excellent search engine, offers exact phrase searching and other advanced options.

Infoseek: Good search engine with advanced and "find similar pages" options.

Lycos: Excellent advanced search capabilities with some options not available in other search engines.
